Wish #12 Lamb

1)If the first lamb of spring looks at you, you are entitled to make a wish

2)If a black lamb looks at you, you should make a wish.

A black lamb. Yay. Picture was taken by me near Cirenchester during a small trip there with other international students from UWE.

Wish #11 Itching

Here are some itch related methods of making a wish

1) If you year itches, you should cover the itching ear and make a wish that only good will be spoken about you.

2) If your eye itches, dont rub it. Cover it with one hand as you wish for something or something you would like to see.

3) If your lips itch, press them together and make a wish.

4) Of your nose itches, make a small "X" on the tip and make a wish.

5) If your foot itches, you should stamp it three times and wish to go to a partucular place.

6) If the palm of your hand itches, scratch it and say the following chant as you wish for money:
" Money itch, money itch
Money itch , money come true."

Wish #9 + 10 Sky and Sneezing

Make a wish when you see red or pink streaks in the sky.

This was taken a few months back from my flat window . Lovely pink-purple sunset. Im going to miss this view when i leave.

And since i sneezed when i was typing out this entry, i thought i'll include some sneeze-related wishes here too.

1) If you sneeze only once, make a wish. Another sneeze within three minutes will cancel the wish

2) If you feel like you are going t sneeze, make a wish: If you manage not to sneeze, your wish will come true .
(HUH?this is totally contradicting the one above)

3) If you sneeze before getting up on a Sunday morning, make a wish.

4) If anyone sneezes at a table where thirteen people are seated, make a wish, then throw a pinch of pepper over your left shoulder to have a better change of your wish coming true.
(wow this one is specific)

Wish #8 Icicle

Gather three of the first icicles of the season. Hold them in your hand as you silently make your wish three times. Then put the icicles under a bush and leave them there. WHen they have melted your wish may come true.

Hmmm...this is hard. I wasnt able to do this... so I'll post a wintery photo i took last winter instead.

Picture was taken by me somewhere behind Marketgate student accomodation along Bond Street.

Wish #7 Gargoyle

When you see a building with a gargoyle on it, make a wish and say,

" Beautiful Gargoyle, Bless my wish!"

Not sure if this counts as a gargoyle or not. Picture taken at St Mary Redcliff church in Bristol. I personally find this gargoyle pretty scary.

Wish #6 Acorn

When you see your first dropped acorn of the season, pick it up and make a wish on it. Keep it for good luck.

If an acorn falls while you are standing under an oak tree, pic it up, turn around three times and make a wish. Put it on a windowsill for three days to make the magic stronger.

We dont have oak trees in Malaysia, but ive always read about them in Enid Blyton storybooks when i was younger. I tried to find an acorn here( in UK) but i had no luck so far. Closet thing i got to an acorn is a leaf from an oak tree near my uni campus in Bower Ashton. =(

Ladybug ladybug ,
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire,
Your children will burn.
All but one, her name was Anne.
She crept under a frying pan.

Wish #4 - Fairy ring

A circle of grass that is greener than the rest is a 'fairy ring'. stand in the centre and make a wish. This method can also be used on a fairy ring of mushrooms or toadstools.

I wasn't able to find a grass or mushroom fairy ring, but i managed to find one of these little daisies. Its not perfect, but its the closest I've found so far. Image taken at Castle Park in Bristol.

Wish #3 - Fountains

Throw a coin into a fountain and make a wish. Count the number of rings it makes on the water's surface. If it's an even number, your wish will come true. If there are odd numbers of rings, your wish will not come true.

I was in Birmingham last Christmas visiting a friend. I came across this fountain in the city centre and i thought of trying this wishing method out. The fountain was frozen solid tho, so when i threw my coin in, it just went slidiing on the surface instead if creating 'rings' on the water surface. So zero rings was created, therefore i guess my wish has a chance of coming true? =)

Wish #2 - Wishing Wells

Drop a coin into a well as you make your wish.

A picture of myself dropping a coin into a wishing well in Keukenhof Gardens in Holland.

Another variation of this method of wishing is to walk around the well three times, drop a small pebble in each time around and whisper your wish into the well. - ( from The Wishing Handbook by Gloria T. Delamar.)

Wish #1 - Star

Stars have always been associated with making wishes since hundreds of years ago. A common star to make a wish upon is the North star, also known as the Polaris. Its ofthen the brightest star and the first one that appears in the sky.

Image taken from here

To make a wish, look at a star say

''Star light, star bright,
First star i see tonight.
I wish i may, I wish i might
Have a wish I wish tonight. ''

Another type of star commonly wished on is a Shooting star.

If you see a shooting star flying across the night sky, quickly make a wish before it dissappears from sight.
